Channing and Jenna Divorced but Custody Issues Remain

Ok, we admit it, we were upset when Channing and Jenna announced they were ending their marriage back in April 2018, but we got over it, as did Channing and Jenna, clearly. Jenna is expecting a baby with boyfriend Stephen Kazee (she posts really cute IG stories about their relationship) and Channing has been dating singer Jessie J for quite some time. So, while life has moved on and their divorce has been granted, custody issues over their six year old daughter appear to be plaguing the former couple. They share joint custody but Channing has asked the court to intervene and issue an order detailing more precisely custody and visitation rights.

Issues that he seems to want a judicial stamp of approval on include, travel with Everly, holiday scheduling, taking her out of school, and facetime communication. In the court documents Channing stated that “over the past six months, it has become evident to me that a clear and specific holiday schedule is necessary and important.” This pretty plain statement leads us here at Proof to deduce that there have been some snafus in these arenas.

But before any of us get too worked up, perhaps we should look deeper into Channing’s other comments in the documents–most of which place the need for a court order on the unpredictable nature of both parents careers. In February 2019, the couple agreed to a schedule but due to their constantly changing work life, Channing believes flexibility would help ensure that both parents can work and have equal time with Everly. He also asked the court grant his request for appointment of a co-parenting counselor in order to help with scheduling conflicts. Although it has been reported that Jenna wants these very same things to us, all of this smacks of two people who actually can not agree and require the input of two third parties–the court and a counselor.

Channing added one more request to the court in his most recent filing: he asks that Everly’s name, image or likeness not be used for any sponsorship or ad campaign, even on social media, without the consent of both parents. Makes sense but interesting that these two really need the court to weigh in on this…

Whatever is in the best interest of the child is what we at Proof say (and that’s the law, by the way). So if a court order will reduce whatever conflict is going on here then we say “go for it, Channing.” You and Jenna can then continue moving on and doing what’s best for Everly.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s Divorce Turns Nasty: Here’s What You Need to Know

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s Hollywood love story is the stuff of legends. Pitt met Jolie in 2004 and, according to Jolie herself, “fell in love” while filming Mr. & Mrs. Smith. The media had a field day with this one because, as we all know, Pitt was still married to Jennifer Aniston. Marked by their ever-growing brood, for nearly a decade the couple would become one of Hollywood’s most recognizable.

It’s All About the Kids
Angelina had already adopted her son Maddox when she met Pitt and, in 2005, months into their relationship she adopted her daughter Zahara.  Pitt filed to legally adopt both of the children and petitioned to have their last name officially changed to Jolie-Pitt (we really respected this hyphenation choice). From there the family grew. In 2006, Angelina announced that she was pregnant with her first biological child with Pitt, Shiloh, who was born in June 2006. In March 2007, the couple adopted once again–adding their son Pax to the family. In August 2008, they welcomed their biological twins, Knox and Vivienne.  This brought the Jolie-Pitts up to 6 kids. Angelina said at the time, “It is chaos, but we are managing it and having a wonderful time.” And, it kind of always looked like they were.

The two didn’t officially announce an engagement until April 2012, and even that came after much speculation that the pair were separating, then marrying, then splitting, then staying together. They officially wed in August 2014. The couple, though a constant source of gossip and speculation, were known to have their children as their focus and, as such, generally flew under the radar. That was–at least–until September 2016.

Don’t Fly Private
On September 19th, 2016, Angelina filed for divorce citing irreconcilable differences. She also requested full physical custody of all six children and asked the judge to give Brad only visitation rights.

Reportedly Angelina’s decision to file resulted from an incident that allegedly happened on a private plane where the Los Angeles Department of Child and Family Services andFBI got involved. Very few details have been confirmed, but the incident reportedly involved Pitt and his eldest son Maddox. There were also whispers that Brad’s drinking–which he has allegedly since gotten help for at a rehabilitation center–had something to do with the incident. But, as any couple will tell you, a divorce rarely comes down to one incident.

Keep it out of Court
Early on the couple announced that they were going to hire private mediators to resolve all matters. This was a good decision as it would keep private information about the family and their finances out of the press. The US court system is public anyone who wants to see documents can do so, unless there is a protective order or they are sealed by the court. In most instances, having an open legal system is desirable and necessary, but in divorce and custody disputes, especially for the rich and famous, it can become very damaging. That’s exactly what is happening right now.

Jolie filed a document with the court and the rumors have not stopped flying. First, TMZclaimed that Jolie’s high-power celebrity divorce attorney, Laura Wasser, was quitting because Jolie was being so “hostile” in the divorce proceedings. Jolie’s rep quickly denied those rumors. Apparently, Wasser is still very much Jolie’s representative though other lawyers, from other law firms, appear to have joined the team.

Brad, a deadbeat dad?
Second, the couple is now starting to argue about money. In legal documents, Jolie claims that her ex “has paid no meaningful child support since separation.” Jolie is now asking the court for a child support order that include retroactive payments.

Accusing Brad of being a deadbeat dad? So much for keeping the kids out of it. The gloves are now off. A source close to Pitt said PItt has paid “easily millions” towards child support for their six children.” In fact, the source goes on to say that Pitt has paid “far more than any informal agreement would stipulate and far more than any judge would have ordered paid if there had been such an order.”

A rep for Jolie attempted to clarify the reasoning behind the court filing saying it was meant to “provide closure to the marriage in a way that clears a path toward the next stage of their lives and allows her and Brad to recommit as devoted co-parents to their children.”

The money talk has continued to flow and now Pitt’s people are claiming that he has paid $9 million in child support and that Jolie’s claims were retaliatory and “a thinly-veiled effort to manipulate media coverage.” And that’s when Brad spilled the tea about the other ways in which he supported Jolie and their children. He claims he paid $1.3 million in bills for Jolie and their children andloaned Jolie $8 million for her current residence.

Jolie’s camp fired back that Pitt treated the $8 million as a loan and that it is not equivalent to child support. Child support is not optional in California, where the matter is filed, and though Jolie has asked that Pitt pay only 50% of the children’s’ expenses, that has simply not been the case according to a representative for Jolie.

Now that the court is more involved, both Jolie and Pitt will have to turn over a great deal of documentation about who owes what to whom and how much. These are big numbers people, lots of kids and lots of publicity.  Things are only going to continue to get messier.

Back to Private Mediation?
We at PROOF preferred when this couple was committed to keeping the matter out of the public eye and in the hands of private mediators. Let’s not forget, at the heart of this are six children.  But, we do not know yet know what is true and what is not. Jolie must have had her reasons. She is, of course, a mother first.

It Looks Like the Scarlett Johansson and Romain Dauriac Divorce Will Be a Messy One

We are HUGE Scarlett Johansson fans here are PROOF so we are sad that is has been confirmed that her marriage is over. And sadder still that things look like they might get pretty messy.

Scarlett Johansson filed for divorce from her husband, Romain Dauriac, a French journalist- turned-popcorn seller (Just a few months ago he and Johansson opened Yummy Pop, a gourmet popcorn shop in Paris.) on March 7, 2017 after only two years of marriage. In January we had heard rumblings that the couple had broken up but all seemed quiet there for a while. Johansson, no dummy, thankfully did have a prenup with Dauriac so the majority of the financial issues are resolved. The biggest issue in the breakup is going to be over custody of their 2-year-old daughter, Rose Dorothy. Johansson has asked for primary physical custody. According to his lawyer, Dauriac is going to fight that.

Both Dauriac and Johansson are known to be private people. And, we remain impressed with ScarJo as one day after filing the divorce papers, she released a statement saying that in the future she will not be discussing her divorce.  “As a devoted mother and private person and with complete awareness that my daughter will one day be old enough to read the news about herself, I would only like to say that I will never, ever be commenting on the dissolution of my marriage,” she stated. “Out of respect for my desires as a parent and out of respect for all working moms, it is with kindness that I ask other parties involved and the media to do the same. Thank you.” Scarlett, we hear you and we will respect your privacy and only report on facts as we know them and are substantiated.

But Johansson isn’t the only one releasing statements, Dauriac released one of his own that same day. He is not pleased that Scarlett filed papers with the court (FYI PROOF readers–a couple can’t get a divorce in the US without ultimately filing legal papers with the court. Yes, custody and other matters can be worked out without court involvement but only a court can issue a dissolution of marriage.) In fact, Dauriac asked Johansson to withdraw them in order to protect their daughter. The Frenchman said in his statement: “It is indeed unfortunate, especially for our daughter, that Scarlett filed in Court and made our personal differences so public. I would implore her to withdraw her action promptly and go back, as uncomfortable as it might be, to the negotiating table. We are the parents of a lovely daughter whom we will continue to co-parent for many years and share her joys and sorrows as only a parent can.”

What is particularly worrisome in this situation and has us thinking of poor Kelly Rutherford is that Dauriac’s lawyer has said that his client plans to petition the court to allow him and his daughter to move to France. Apparently, Johansson and Dauriac were in the middle of

private negotiations when she filed papers but it’s obvious that those discussions were not going quite how Johansson hoped and she wanted official court involvement. Depending on how broken those negotiations had become, we agree with this decision by Johansson and her team. Too much at stake here to play nice for too long.

We really hope that Johansson and Dauriac can come to an amicable solution regarding custody of Rose and that things don’t go the way of Kelly Rutherford, as we mentioned above.  Most of us know how that hellish multi-year, international custody battle ended: Rutherford losing custody of her two children to her Monaco-based ex, Daniel Giersch as well as causing her to go bankrupt. If Johannson and Dauriac can keep the best interest of Rose in mind at all times as the case progresses, there is a lot to gain, as top divorce lawyer, Brandy Austin, makes clear: “Having represented numerous clients in divorce proceedings, I can attest to the emotional impact a custody dispute has on a child. Although there are multiple interests involved, the child’s best interest is of utmost importance. A parent who puts the child’s interest before their own can often avoid a contentious battle in court and win the favor of the judge or jury.”

We do appreciate this couple’s desire to keep things private, much like Brad and Angelina’s recent decision regarding their divorce (of course this was only after issues regarding custody and care of their children became VERY public) but we can’t say we think this is going to be an easy one.  This custody matter seems primed to become an all out custody battle. Hopefully, the result will be the one that is in the best interest of young Rose Dorothy. We’re rooting for you little one.

Spousal Support: The Latest in Big Hollywood Divorce Payouts

Kevin Dillon
Entourage star Kevin Dillon is the latest Hollywood celeb to shell out big bucks to an ex for spousal support as part of a divorce settlement. Dillon and ex, Jane Stuart, have an 11-year-old daughter, Ava, and it has been reported that he has agreed to pay Jane $3,174 a month in child support for Ava and to pay Jane $7,214 in monthly spousal support. Dillon is reportedly worth at least $10 million. Johnny Drama is just one in a long list of Hollywood celebs shelling out the dough to an ex. Here are some of the most recent payouts and requests . . .

Mary J. Blige
All Mary J. Blige wants is “No More Drama” but her marriage to Kendu Isaacs was full of it. Isaacs not only cheated on Blige, but during their divorce proceedings earlier this year, he requested $130k in spousal support. Fortunately, the judge agreed that that number was off the charts and he ordered Blige to pay Isaacs $30,000 a month, still a rather ridiculous sum. The couple was married for twelve years. Keep singing and succeeding Mary so that you don’t feel one ounce of pain from this monthly bill!

Aisha Tyler
Aisha Tyler’s marriage of over 20 years to Jeff Tietjens met it’s end in early 2017, and despite the fact that documents say the split was amicable, Tyler is shelling out huge bucks to her ex. “[Tyler] shall pay [Tietjens] $500,000 in cash,” the divorce agreement states. In addition, Tyler will pay Tietjens $31,250 a month over the next four years, which totals an additional $1.5 million. We’re big fans of Aisha’s and stand behind her in this time of incredible personal change. And, we love what she recently posted on twitter: “Life is about change. Sometimes it’s painful. Sometimes it’s beautiful. Most of the time, it’s both. Be brave, everyone. Be brave.”

Sherri Shepherd
Sherri Shepherd’s case is paying child support to her ex-husband, Lamar Sally, who has sole custody of their son, Lamar Sally Jr.  The almost three-year-old was conceived using Sally’s sperm and a donor egg, and was carried via surrogate. What’s interesting is that Shepherd has no genetic connection to him and the couple split prior to the child’s birth. In November 2015, a Pennsylvania court of appeals upheld a decision stating that Shepherd’s name would remain on Lamar Sally Jr’s birth certificate and Shepherd would be responsible for paying child support. She currently pays $4,100 a month; recently Sally Sr. has requested more.

Mel B
There are rather vile allegations swirling around about Scary Spice/Melanie Brown’s (a.k.a. Mel B) marriage to Stephen Belafonte and, truth be told, we simply can’t wrap our heads around the amount of money Belafonte has requested for spousal support! As many know, Brown is ending her ten-year marriage to Belafonte amidst allegations of domestic violence, infidelity, and some other unspeakable behavior (click here for more info on this). Brown obtained a restraining order against Belafonte and this lovely ex is asking the Spice Girl for emergency spousal support, upwards of $20,000 a month. He has requested $11,000 for housing, $750 for his cell phone bill, $4,300 for groceries, and $2,000 for clothing. Brown has called his requests “exorbitant.” Bet you all know where we at PROOF stand.

Mike Epps
Mechelle Epps supported her husband Mike Epps and his comedy career for years by holding down their family and raising their daughters. They’re splitting after ten years of marriage and she’s claiming that while they were married, Mike actually forbade her from working, and now she’s not able to find a job because, at age 36, she is “too old” for one. In addition, Mechelle says she needs $600 a month to cover the cost of her mother’s car, $3,500 a month for nannies, $72,000 for their girls’ private schooling, and additional money to literally keep up appearances (hmmm . . .). All of this adds up to a request for $109,000 a month to support herself and their two daughters. As of now, a judge has not made a decision regarding the amount of the monthly payout but until we know exactly what Mike earns his other debts, and the true expenses for the Epps women to maintain their lifestyle, we’re thinking Mechelle may not be seeing the full 109k she is requesting.

Oh, to live that celebrity life, where seemingly one needs a cool million to survive every year. We’re not knocking it, just prefer to live in the real world–we guess.
